Budget Ballin’ – Happy Hour at Arro – Austin, TX

I really believe that “The Finer Things Club” isn’t restricted to just those with a ballin’ budget. Yes – you can enjoy actual Champagne on an ordinary Wednesday, on the cheap, and on the reg. I love to discover great deals and great experiences around the city, and prove that “Budget Ballin'” is real y’all.

I love bubbles, I love cheese boards, and I love French cuisine; so naturally I love Arro.  When it opened last year, I was so excited to try it out. I took my Mom there for a lovely ladies dinner and forced her to try the Bone Marrow among other delicacies (it is amazing, for the record). She still pokes fun at me, comparing me to Bill Heder’s “Stefon” on SNL, because I was so enthusiastic about the restaurant.

“Austin’s hottest cheese plate is at Arro. It’s got everything;
a killer wine list, a greenhouse, and none other than Easy Tiger bread making an appearance alongside some fancy cheeses.”

Well, my hands flew to my face the other day as I read about their new Happy Hour; 50% off by-the-glass wine, $5 drafts & 50% off all bread offerings including cheese & charcuterie selections, weekdays 5-7pm. I met up with one of my best friends to scope it out.

Right as I arrived, the bartender was describing a truly fantastic deal on glasses of Bruno Paillard Cuvée. She made a great point that while $20 for a single glass is a bit much, $10 isn’t so crazy. I’m so glad that I tried it! Hailing from the Champagne region of France, this is the real deal, and one of the few winemakers that actually lists the disgorgement date on the bottle. I also tried an even more moderately priced bubbly Rosé – so refreshing!

For food, we split two cheese boards – the Chef’s Board (above) and the Large Format (below). The selections change daily, and this time, I particularly loved the paté, brie, and mustard found on the Chef’s Board. We ended up getting extra bread, lest we let that delicious cheese go to waste.

After splitting the bill, my grand total before tip was a whole $25 dollars. Needless to say, you might be able to find me at Arro’s bar more often from now on.
